The Architect

Principal and Owner Stephen Greenleaf grew up in Scituate, Rhode Island.  After completing high school at Moses Brown School in Providence, Ste-phen journeyed to the Pacific Northwest attending Architecture School at the University of Oregon. 

Upon graduating in 1981, he worked in Architectural firms in Boston and Denver.  He also designed Passive Solar additions, sold active solar systems and travelled extensively in Europe before returning to Rhode Island for good in 1985.

Back in Rhode Island, Stephen worked in several local firms, obtained his License in 1987 and achieving the level of Project Architect before starting Stephen Greenleaf, Architect in 1994.

Since then, Stephen has nurtured his firm, developing its practicing to re-flect his own high standards of originality and responsiveness.  Some of the results can be viewed in the Project Gallery on this site. 

Stephen resides in Rumford with his wife Joanne.   They enjoy family and friends, their house and gardens and life in general.

  • East Providence Historic District Commission-Board Member.
  • Rhode Island Monthly Design Awards-Silver Medal, Commercial Interior Design  for Sakonnet River Pie, 2005.
  • Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation, Honorable Mention,  Affordable Housing Design Competition, 1989.
